John Drebinger

Senior Vice-Presidential Candidate

The role of the Associated Students Senior Vice-President is a demanding position that works closely with both the President and the Senate.  Their responsibilities of supporting the President and overseeing all the Senators require that the Vice-President be a person possessing stable character, excellent communication skills, a great understanding of people, and outstanding leadership skills.  John Drebinger is uniquely qualified to fulfill all of these roles with the skills and knowledge he has gained through serving a year as Senator of Stewart and a year as an RA in Stewart.  Both of these positions have given him the combined experience that enables him to perform the duties of Vice-President with excellence.

John Drebinger began his freshman year in service to the Biola community by filling the position of the Stewart senator.  Through his duties as senator, he became familiar with the inner workings of the AS government.  This familiarity is necessary for his role in advising the President and will give him the ability to capably implement their goals for the campus, as well as needs that will be raised by their fellow students.  Also, his experience as a senator gives him both an awareness and an appreciation of what it is like to be a senator and this knowledge will equip him to motivate, and direct the senate with understanding and compassion.

During his, sophomore year, John served as an RA in Stewart.  This position taught him about leadership and honed his abilities to counsel, unite and organize large groups of people.  His close interactions with the students on his floor and in his dorm have also given him an understanding of the needs and desires of students on campus.  Because of the relational nature of the RA position, John also developed an increased awareness of the emotional and practical needs of people and the importance of trust and communication in relationships.  These skills will enable him to lead the senate well.

His unique combination of experience as both RA and a senator have given John experience working with a wide range of administration across a variety of departments, thoroughly familiarizing him with the workings of many of the systems on campus and giving him the ability to knowledgeably implement plans as well as utilize his connections to unite the campus.  The skills of leadership, understanding, and communication that he gained from these positions are skills necessary to the position of Vice-President, skills that he possesses in abundance.

His experiences as an RA and a senator, as well as a student, give John the ability to relate to a wide majority of the population.  All of these have combined to make him a distinctly qualified candidate for the position of Vice-President, well equipped to preside over the Senate and serve the campus by uniting the body of students and body of Christ to bring positive changes to Biola and further the Kingdom of God.
